‘Tis the Season
1. During the December holiday season, Do you
a. Go away to join other family?
b. Have holiday fun with immediate family?
c. Get to be alone with a lover?
d. Enjoy the peace and quiet and down-time of being with yourself?
I do a combination of a and b. This year, I am having 4 days of Christmas. On the Saturday before Christmas, we are spending the day with my cousin and her family in southern Georgia. The following day on Sunday, we are getting together with our gaming group for our 5th annual Grinchmas dinner. (For Grinchmas, everybody gets gifts for everyone else, but you’re not allowed to spend more than $1 per person. Thrift stores, yard sales, regifting, and free swag give endless creative possibilities for this!) Christmas Eve, I have dinner and gifting with my almost-family. And Christmas day will be spent with Roland’s family.
2. What is your favorite holiday tradition or thing that you like to do every holiday season?
Aside from the Grinchmas tradition mentioned above, I don’t have any personal holiday traditions. I’ve never been a huge fan of the holidays, but especially ever since I lost my mom in 2003, this time of year is always really hard for me. My mother was always really into Christmas, breaking out the lights and decorations the night after Thanksgiving. She always put a lot of effort into decorating, so it’s hard for me to get into any of it now without her.
3. You are walking down the street and a sexy person is standing with a sign that says “Kiss Me” and mistletoe hanging above their head.
A. Would you kiss that person? YES or NO
B. Why or why not?
Sure, as long as he/she wanted to be kissed by me! I mean, it doesn’t have to be a deep, tantric, tonsil-tango snog or anything. It could just be a simple peck on the cheek, yanno?
4. Santa made up his list and he has checked it twice. Turns out you are on the “naughty” list. What is the naughty thing you did that put you on that list?
I’ve never been on anything but the “naughty” list.
5. For being naughty you have been locked in a room where you will be forced to learn about holiday cheer. You will have to watch 24 hours of a holiday movie, which movie would you choose to watch? (pick just one)
a. A Christmas Story
b. It’s a Wonderful Life
c. White Christmas
d. A Christmas Carol (original 1938 version or the 1992 Muppet version)
Brace yourselves, but I’ve never seen a. Yes, I know that’s un-American or something. Perhaps one day. Nor have I seen c, for that matter. I’ve only ever seen b, and both versions of d once or twice all the way through. The holiday movies that stick out for me are Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. But my little sister really burned those out for me when I was a kid. She wanted to watch them every day, year round. My favorite Christmas movies are The Ref and Gremlins.
Bonus: The holidays can be a hectic time of year, so much so that romance might take a back seat to festivities and such. Give us YOUR sexy tip for keeping away the “chill” and “heating up” the holiday season.
I’m going to go with the infinite wisdom of Dan Savage on this one: fuck before you eat! Or before you go to visit the family. Or before the festivities. Afterward, you may be too full or too tired or just too emotionally worn out to have any sexual desire. Just make sure to set aside some sexy time for you and your partner(s)!
